The Commonwealth of the Bahamas has 29 Islands, 661 cays and 2,387 islets. It is Located on the north of Cuba, Hispaniola, and Caribbean Sea in the Atlantic Ocean. There is one more theory which says Columbus was landed on the Samana Cay which is located on the southeast side in the year 1986 on this island the first contact was made between Lucayans and Columbus.
Columbus wiped out most of the population from Bahamas with the help of Spaniards. He depopulated the island because of the diseases. These Taino Indians were suffering from smallpox as there they had no immunity and now the island is called as Bahamas. Most of the area of the island was uninhabited during the mid-17th century. Groups from France, Britain, Spain, and American Indians tried a lot to settle the Islands. While in the year 1648 the Eleutherian Adventurers migrated from the Bermuda region. In the year 1670 King Charles II gave the power of islands to the Lord proprietors of the Carolinas. They taken this island and rented from the king for the purpose of tax, business, and appointment of governors and for further developments. Bahamas Island became the place of shelter for pirates and for Black beards. The Bahamas was made as a British crown colony in the year 1718 to make the proper government. Woodes Rogers was the person who got succeeded to suppress the piracy.
American Naval base made this place as premium target during the time of American Revolutionary War under the leadership of Ezekial Hoplins. Nassau the capital of Bahamas was captured by US Marines for two weeks. In the year 1782 when the Yorktown was defeated by the British, Spanish navy came on the coast of Nassau and they surrendered themselves and after the Treaty of Versailles in the year 1783 Bahamas was given in the hands of British power. 7,300 people and slaves came to Bahamas from New York, Carolinas, and Florida after the American Revolution. They made many changes in the island of Bahamas through their plantations and made this place as political center and from this time the place became the African populated island.
The Slave trade was started in the year 1807 from the British government at this time thousands of African people were enlightened from slave ships by the Royal Navy and this was the end of Slavery in the British Empire on 1st August, 1834.

Trade winds blow throughout the year with warm weather and cold winters. The weather is humid most of the time from September through May is the coldest time at this place.
