Iceland is one destination that most people would love to go at least once. It is quite beautiful, and has a good deal of sights and things to do. The best time to visit Iceland has been a mystery for almost everyone undertaking a first time trip to this nation. Maybe it is the name, since most people seen afraid about the “freezing cold”. There is no need to be, since Iceland is not that cold all through the year, and is certainly not covered in Ice.

The best time to go to Iceland would be in the summer. These are the warmer months of June, July and August. This is an excellent time to visit for first timers. During the summer, the weather is quite pleasant, and along with this, the sun does not set completely. This natural phenomenon is known as the Midnight Sun.

There is no chance of rain in the months of June and July. The weather stays quite mild even until the latter half of Aug. Mid September onwards; you will find that almost all summer activities are discontinued. This is the case until May in the year that follows.

However, this only answers the question with respect to the weather. What about those who want to take advantage of the low priced air tickets as well as the low prices in the local hotels during the off season? When does this happen?

Well, as far as budget traveling in the off season would be best advised in the months of Feb or March, since there is more daylight in these months than earlier in the winter.

Iceland in the winter is filled with sights that are completely unique. The three to four hours of daylight, known as Polar nights, and the cold temperatures can be seen as disadvantages, but attractions such as the Northern Life, the never ending nightlife at Reyjavik (party on!) and a huge number of snow activities make putting up with these worth it.

Krakow is a historically significant city in Poland. It is an exceedingly rewarding destination in the country and is filled with sights and attractions related to culture and history.

The city has been declared a heritage site by the UNESCO. There are a great number of options for entertainment such as pubs, bars and clubs. There are a huge number of museums and art galleries.

The market square of the city is the largest in entire Europe and measures two hundred by two hundred meters in size. The Royal Route is a great place to stroll around and watch the city sights. You will come across the Florinska Gate first, then the St Mary’s Cathedral and Sukiennice. From there the way to go is via the ul Grodzka, where the Churches of St Paul and St Peter are located.

The Wawel Castle is the most famous landmark of the city, and should be visited next. The castle has a number of associations with legend, such as the story of the Wawel Dragon. The ancient tombs and cathedrals here are worth visiting.

The St Mary’s Basilica is another attraction that is notable. The stained glasses here are blue in color, and have a magnificent ceiling and altar piece. At one of the towers here, a trumpet plays here once every hour and stops mid tune.

Wadowice, the birthplace of previous Pope John Paul the II, is another popular destination. It is situated about forty kilo meters from the city.

The Oswiecim concentration camp was where millions of people were killed at the time of the Second World war, and you can pay your respects here.

Ollantaytambo is a really charming town of minuscule proportions situated in the western end of the Sacred Valley and is close to 2 hrs 30 mins from Cuzco by bus. The town was constructed on top of the Inca foundations that were originally at the site, and is the best examples of town planning of the Incans. The town has been separated into a number of canchas or blocks, all of which are in a state of excellent preservation even now.

Each one of the canchas has one entrance that leads to a central courtyard region. There are a good number of excellent sights on offer at the Ollantaytambo. The houses surround the courtyard and the best examples of this type of planning can be seen at the space behind the main plaza.

Ollantaytambo is situated at the foot of the spectacular Inca ruins. These were built as defense for the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The temple area is located at the top of the steep terrace that helped provide excellent defense for the area. The stone used for construction was brought from a quarry that is situated high from the opposite side of the Urubamba. This feat was truly a marvel that required thousands of workers. The complex was under construction at the time of the conquest, and was not completed.

Ollantaytambo was the only place to have resisted Spanish invasions. Incan armies rained showers of rocks, arrows, spears upon the Spanish troops and the plains were flooded on purpose to make it difficult for horses to maneuver. The Spanish army was led by Hernando, younger brother of Francisco Pizzaro, and he ordered an uncharacteristic and hasty retreat. Although the victory was short lived, Ollantaytambo earned respect.

The towering Pembroke Castle is one castle that truly inspires a feeling of awe by its sheer size. The castle was a stronghold for the Normans, and dates back to the times of William the Conqueror. The original castle was built at that time, but a major part of the present castle was built somewhere in the 13th century.

Henry Tudor, who later went on to become King Henry VII, was born in Pembroke Castle.

The castle has closest associations with Richard de Clare and William Marshal, two Welsh Marcher Lords who were strong Earls in Pembroke, who had a good amount of power. The ruthless suppression of the Welsh people by the Earls caused much unrest in the people.

Pembroke has exhibitions on the site, as well as a short movie that traces the history of the castle as well as the occupants, and also an exhibit in the name of King Henry.

The Pembroke castle can be entered through the gatehouse tower, and the moment you enter, the size will simply overwhelm you. The curtain wall of the castle has a series of well preserved towers connecting it. The walls and towers of the castle are complete as there were extensive restoration efforts undertaken.

The central courtyard is enormous in size, and has green grass and park seats. This space dominates the castle. The courtyard is big enough to accommodate all of the Harlech Castle.

It is possible to walk the sections of the wall by climbing the towers to the top. The Henry Tower, which is named in honor of King Henry VII, and the Northern Hall are completed walls that are quite impressive. However, the massive Keep of William Marshal is what totally dominates the structure. The Keep was constructed by Marshal in 1200, and was the last resort for soldiers.

Arundel Castle is located close to Bodiam Castle, and although a castle that is every bit as interesting as the latter, Arundel is more often than not neglected by tourists coming here in search of the more famous attractions in Southern England. The abundant expanses of West Sussex have many such attractions, and the castle is just one of them. The town of Arundel is home to the castle.

Arundel town can be reached in about ninety minutes by car from London. The town is minuscule in size, but has a huge number of charms for tourists. There are a whole number of significant historical sights as well. There are a number of heavenly landscapes that are on offer at the town, as well as a duke of its own. The Arundel Castle is stayed in by the duke, who is descended directly from the Howard, Fitzaand and d’Albani clans that owned the castle in the 12th century, or the duke and duchess of Norfolk.

The Arundel Castle was constructed in the 1068 AD. The appearance of the castle at the time of building was a lot different from the appearance now. The castle was built in motte and bailey by a close aide to William the Conqueror named Roger de Montgomery. The castle was built so as to protect the south boundaries of England in case invaders came in from the continent.

Nottingham Castle is a notable castle located in the country of Nottingham in England. It is one of the most notable castles in the whole of the United Kingdom. It is situated in a strategic position atop the “Castle Rock” which is a natural promontory. The Castle Rock has cliffs as high as forty meters (130 ft) to its west and south.

A castle built in earth work motte and bailey fortress, Nottingham Castle established in thousand sixty seven by William the Conqueror. Motte and bailey was the prevalent method of constructing castles at that time because of the speed of construction. However, this was at a loss of strength that made it relatively weak. It was Henry I I that built the stone castle.

Nottingham Castle was among the main royal fortresses in England during the Middle Ages. It was also on occasion resided in by the King. The castle however began declining from the sixteenth century, and was ravaged badly in sixteen forty nine. There is however a good number of ruins that remain that give a hint of how the site used to be previously.

The Ducal Mansion came on the site of the castle. Even this structure was burnt out by rioters in 1831. This was later adapted as a museum and art gallery. This still has exhibitions held on a regular basis.

Prague Castle is one of the most important monuments in Prague, if not entire Czech Republic. The castle has undergone a number of reconstructions, four of them major. The castle is among the largest castles in the world. The original building was constructed in the 9th century, and all other buildings were added later. This has resulted in the castle having a variety of styles used in its architecture. You can see many major styles that were famous in Europe.

Prague Castle has been the official residence for the Monarchy and later on for the rulers; it is stayed in now by the President of Czech Republic. The castle has a number of gardens and sports three court yards. The gardens can be visited by public, as well as some buildings in the castle. The Old Royal Palace and St Vitus Cathedral are two buildings that re part of the complex of the castle that should be missed at no cost.

The St Vitus Cathedral is the seat of the Archbishop of Prague, and is also home to the tombs of the Bohemian Kings. The cathedral is built in a Gothic style, which is one of the many styles visible in the castle complex. The Basilica of St George, on the other hand, is built in a Romanesque style, and is the most ancient church building in the complex.

The Prague Castle also houses a number of museums including the famous National gallery, the Toy Museum, and the Picture Gallery here. Also famous is the Lobkzowicz palace that has a huge collection of mythological frescoes from the 17th century.
