Czech Republic – An Ancient Gem of Central Europe

The Czech Republic, a non-coastal nation in central Europe, is full of legendary fortresses, historic cities and towns, well-designed spa resorts, and beautiful national parks. Occupying one-third land of the United Kingdom, this hilly and scenic nation is accompanied by Germany on its west, Poland on its north, the Slovak Republic on its east, and Austria on its south.

Once under Czechoslovakia until 1993 prior to the Velvet Divorce, the nation holds the historic regions of Bohemia and Moravia and features a wealthy cultural legacy. The two-third of the western land of the nation is Bohemia, while Moravia occupies the eastern land of the Czech Republic. Moravia is on the Morava River’s basin.

Comprising of an extensive river basin edged by hills and mountains, the longest river named Labe of the nation originates from the Krkonose Mountains in the northeast. It then flows from south, west, and to north in Germany where it is called the River Elbe.

Besides the two main ancient cities, nature’s landscape, and rivers, the remaining part of the country also has enough eye catchers and tourist pullers. This is evident from its 11 UNESCO World Heritage sites such as the scenic town of Cesky Krumlov, the chateaux, picturesque gardens of Lednice-Valtice, and the Renaissance constructions of Telc.

Czech is the formal language of the Czech Republic. In addition, people also speak English and German here. Population here mainly belongs to the Roman Catholic cult with a few Protestants. Further, a small community of Jews can also be seen in Prague.
