Little Heaven: Guinea



Most of the tourists who have been to guinea call it ‘Switzerland of Africa’ because of the landscape which varies from magnificent mountains to dried plains and from beautiful Savannahs to attractive mangroves and there are three main African rivers which originate from here making the whole region pleasant and scenic. It’s a huge land with less population.

The south region of Guinea has world’s some remaining tropical dry forests and rainforests which are luxuriant and have varieties of wildlife. The Fouta Djalon Plateau in the west has extravagant waterfalls which make the whole view pleasant and memorable; also the place has some adventurous hiking spots in West Africa. The capital of the country is Conakry, though it doesn’t have scenically blessed, the city promises good and safe nightlife.

The Guinea’s uniqueness comes out not only because of its impressive scenery but through its culture. The country is still rooted to it tradition o music and dance. The idea of tourism industry is still lacking behind in Guinea than compared to other countries in West Africa. So the tour won’t be easy but the price would be rewarding.

As it is mention above the city Conakry is not much blessed by the Mother Nature but it has few good looking botanical gardens. Then at the centre of the city is Cathedral which is worth viewing and then the national museum is one of the place you will get to see collected works of masks, statues and musical instrument. You can’t miss out see Chinese build Palais du Peupleauditorium, Palais du Peuple which is a home for two national ballet troupes.

In the suburb of Conakry there are these caves known as Kakimbon Caves which is a big religious place for the Baga people who live on the costal areas of Guinea. Try catching some local people from there and knowing the legends of that caves. Around six miles to the southwest of Conakry is the Îles de Los which is tagged as a tourist destination. There are even uncrowded beaches at Île de Roume and Île de Kassa which can be reached by the public boat service.

Approximately ninety three miles away from the Conakry city is a mini heaven. Just between the luxuriant foliage beside two hundred and thirty feet long rock, flows dazzling River Sabende which turn into calm pond, is the picturesque Le Voile de la Mariée. There is another waterfall in Pita situates amid Dabala and Labe, is the most striking waterfall which falls from four thousand and two feet.

For some appealing open markets and famous Mosques in the city you should visit to nearby town known as Katikan and if you are interested in buying good quality of cloths and weaving which is an indigo dying centre, you should go to a town named Kindia.

Farrah town is the happening place once the sun sets down. With amazing mosques, villas, wine boulevards and markets to roam around, this place always get filled by the chaos and bustle of the people. To have a pleasant walk go to Niger this flows from Foroknia north to Bamako.

Fouta Djalon highlands are known to its striking scenic view. The hills here are well known for hiking. The town Mamou which is nearby and you can’t miss the street food served there. To the eastern region of Guinea is full of historical town and the remaining of the medieval empire.

Guinea doesn’t have any national parks but you can see wildlife in the northwest Savannahs which is amid of Tinkisso River and the Mali border, below the Fouta Djalon.

To visit this country there are regular flights of Air France from London to Conakry via Paris. Air Afrique functions from New York to Dakar, from where linking flights to Guinea are obtainable.

Notice for the travelers:

Due to the civil war somewhere you might not get transportation so first check the condition of the war by your embassy or some organization. The tourist should be careful at the Conakry airport as there incidents of tourists pockets have been picked. Fix your traveling in advance by a travel agency.
