Barbados is the West Indian Continental Island to be found on the east of Caribbean Sea in the western Atlantic Ocean. It was the settlement and territory of the United Kingdom for more than three centuries. It is a part of Lesser Antilles and still under the control of Queen Elizabeth II. Saint Lucia, and Martinique, is the islands surrounding Barbados while Saint Vincent and Grenadines are located on the west, Trinidad and Tobago is on the south side of Barbados. It is still treated as South American mainland. Barbados is very famous for sugar productions, service and tourism sectors have a good stake in economy. It has become the largest captive insurance country with huge number of call centers. The Europeans from Portugal, Spanish, and Brazil were the people who discovered this island. It is an indigenous island and the name Barbados came from the word “Bearded” which means hanging of the roots of bearded fig trees.

Another reason behind the name of this island is the people who use to live here they were called as “Bim” and “Bimshire”. This theory is found by National Cultural Foundation. The word “Bim” was used to describe slaves. The people called as Amerindians who came from Venezuela in 350-400 B.C. while the Arawak people were the second migrants who arrived from South America. While the Cribs from South America arrived here in 13th century and lived here for few centuries with isolation from Arawak and the Salodoid Barrancoid. In the mid of 1500 and 1600 Portuguese claimed Barbados and captured indigenous Caribs and used them as slave laborers. After ruling on the Caribs the Portuguese had a very little impact by the 1610 and they left to move towards South America and most of the island of Barbados was uninhabited but at this point of time you can easily see the people of Arawaks.
