Vacation in Nicaragua: A marvelous travel hotspot



Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America that offers Volcanoes where you can climb, waves where you can try surfing, tropical rainforest just to trek and colourful colonial cities which you can explore. There is no scarcity of attraction in Nicaragua. This is a popular country where tourists always get ready on their foot to visit. This country is the representative democratic republic that covers an area of about 130,373 square kilometers. This country is surrounded by Honduras to the northern side and Costa Rica towards the southern direction. With this the Pacific Ocean is located at the western side of Nicaragua and towards the east you can see the Caribbean Sea.

The capital of this country is Managua and Nicaragua is considered as a biodiversity hotspot. Christopher Columbus was the first European who reached to this country in the year 1502. It has a deep history and so is of pre-Columbian times. It has about one fifth of territory as designated area. It has three geographical areas and they are the Pacific Vacation in NicaraguaLowlands, the Amerrique Mountains and the Mosquito Coast.

North-Central Highlands is a less populated area which is also a developed one as per economy. It has a temperate land with a height in between 2,000 and 5,000 feet. These highlands offer mild temperatures commonly on 24 to 27 degree Celsius. The region remains wet for long during rainy season leading to the poor soils, rough terrain and low population but in the northwestern valleys you will get fertile land and inhabitants settled as well. It has a cool climate and a quarter of land is used as for agriculture like oaks, pines, moss, ferns and orchids. Coffee could be seen growing in a vast number on the higher slopes. Birds like Resplendent Quetzal, goldfinches, hummingbirds, jays and toucanets could be found in this region.

Atlantic lowlands are a huge rainforest region which was irrigated by some of the large rivers and have very limited population. Rio Coco is the largest river in Central America. From here you can enjoy a very good life in Bosawas Biosphere Reserve of Nicaragua which could be found in the Atlantic lowlands. It covers a protected area of 1.8 million acres in the La Mosquitia forest. This makes it the major rainforest to the north of Amazon in Brazil. The climate could be found tropical due to the rainforest. Here you can experience a number of birds like eagles, turkeys, toucans, parakeets and macaws. Besides this, animal lives like many species of monkeys, anteaters, white-tailed deer and tapirs could be found.

The tourism industry is the second largest in the country that boosted its economy to a certain level. Due to the growth of tourism it led to the increase of agriculture, commerce and finance industries. To experience the nature some 60,000 US citizens visit Nicaragua every year. The culture of Nicaragua is very strong with folklore, music and religious traditions which were deeply influenced by the European culture. About 90 percent of the country’s population speaks Spanish language and this country has no official religion.

Once you reach at this country you should try the criollo food and dishes of pre-Columbian origin. At the Caribbean coast the staple food is seafood and coconut but in Pacific Coast the people eat fruits and corns more. Well, in most of the countries in Latin America, the staple food is corn. The national dish of Nicaragua is Gallo pinto which is actually made with white rice and red beans.

Momotombo volcanoNicaragua has experienced a series of human and natural disasters like military dictatorship, civil war, earthquakes and also the devastating Hurricane. But still after suffering from all these disasters it became one of the best travel destinations in the World. Climb to the volcanic crater and for all these Laguna de Xiloa is the most well-known place. Try a canopy tour above the Tiscapa Lagoon, spot monkeys at the Ometepe Island on Lake Nicaragua, hike in the Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve where you can see a number of orchids in the cloud forest, climb the volcano and get beautiful views or you can also ski on a hot air balloon to get the best aerial view of the volcanic craters, walk on the rocks and swim in the clear waters of Somoto Canyon, try surfing on the Pacific coast and also flow with the waves of water at the popular San Juan Del Sur that has the finest waves of Nicaragua.

For sightseeing you have plenty of attractions like Leon which is a must visiting site filled with university, colleges and colonial churches. It has a major cathedral in over all Central America. The entire city always remains charged with an artistic buzz. If you move towards the northern direction from Leon you can experience the Hervideros de San Jacinto that offers natural sulphuric hot springs. The city of Granada has many colonial buildings where you can make a visit. Church of La Merced, Church of Jalteva and the fortress-church of San Francisco are the interesting sites worth visiting.

Indio Maiz Biological ReserveCorn Islands is a set of coral reef and to experience brilliant wildlife head to the Indio Maiz Biological Reserve. It is a home to some animals like jaguars, eagles, macaws and manatees. Nicaragua also offers exotic beaches like EI Coco, Marsella, Ocotal and many others that lie in the southern direction of Nicaragua and in the department of Rivas. You can see Paslama turtles from the month of July to January who comes ashore to lay eggs and only could be found in Rio Escalante-Chacocente Wildlife Refuge.

When you are coming to visit Nicaragua you should first plan your days properly and try spending few days in Managua that has many attractions to visit like the National Museum and also enjoy listening to the concert in Ruben Dario National Theatre. Reaching here is very easy for the international tourists as you will get airport like Augusto C Sandino International Airport in the city of Managua.
